Congratulations to Columbia Police Department's SRO Tyler McWhorter for being honored with this year’s prestigious CGTI Engagement Spotlight Award. This award is presented to an Adult Mentor who has gone above and beyond to be actively engaged with their students throughout Cebrin Goodman Teen Institute and has demonstrated their commitment to be a positive guiding force in their students' lives year-round. The committee had the following to say about SRO McWhorter: "Now in their second year bringing students to CGTI, this adult mentor has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to substance use prevention, youth leadership, and mental wellness. Their dedication to growing their student team and fostering meaningful engagement in their local coalition work speaks volumes about their investment in not only their success, but their potential to become lifelong changemakers. Their presence at CGTI is more than just supervisory; it’s intentional, passionate, and inspiring. Whether they are facilitating thoughtful conversations with their team, encouraging new ideas for prevention efforts back home, or simply showing up with enthusiasm and energy each day, they lead with heart. This week, we’ve seen this mentor fully immerse themselves in the CGTI spirit, dancing with students, sharing laughter, and cheering them on at every opportunity. Their joy is infectious and his support, unwavering. This mentor doesn’t just talk about the mission, they live it. Their actions have created a ripple effect among their students, empowering them to grow as leaders and deepen their commitment to the work that CGTI champions. This person embodies the very values this program was built on, and we are grateful for the example they set for both youth and fellow mentors alike. For their authentic leadership, personal devotion, and the lasting impact this mentor is making within their coalition and beyond, we proudly award Tyler McWhorter for this well-deserved recognition."
